Mauna Kea crafts socks on vintage machines using natural materials, their hemp and cotton blend ensures both quick-drying and high moisture absorption. The socks are knitted in a tubular shape, therefore, the comfort of the sock is not determined by the pattern but by the knit and thickness of yarn. A standard knitting machine uses 170-180 stitches, whereas their machines which have been in use for over 25 years, use 60 stitches. The loose knit means thicker yarn can be used, and the flexibility afforded by the low gauge makes the sock more comfortable, as it takes the shape of each unique wearer.
